What to look for

Signs your cooling system needs attention

You don't need to diagnose it yourself — but knowing what you're seeing makes the call easier.

It runs but the house never gets cool

Could be refrigerant, airflow, a failing compressor or a system that was undersized from day one.

Warm air from the vents

Usually a refrigerant or component failure — worth catching before it takes the compressor with it.

Water around the indoor unit

A clogged condensate drain is cheap to fix now and expensive after it soaks a ceiling.

The outdoor unit hums but the fan doesn't spin

Classic capacitor or motor fault. Common, and usually a same-visit repair.

Humidity that won't come down

An oversized system cools fast and never dehumidifies. Sizing matters more than tonnage.

Ice on the refrigerant lines

Stop running it and call — it's a symptom of airflow or refrigerant trouble, not a cooling bonus.

Our work

What we do on cooling

  • AC repair and diagnosticsCompressors, capacitors, controls, refrigerant leaks, drain lines.
  • Central air installationSized for the house, ducted properly, and set up so the second floor is livable.
  • Ductless mini-splitsThe answer for older Greater Boston homes that were never built for ductwork.
  • Spring tune-upsClean coils, verify charge, check electrical — before the first heat wave.
  • Duct repairs and balancingHalf of cooling complaints are really airflow complaints.
  • Commercial rooftop unitsSmall commercial and property-managed buildings, on a schedule that works.

Repair or replace?

Air conditioning tends to give you warning. If a system is under about twelve years old and the failure is a capacitor, contactor, fan motor or drain, repair is almost always the right call.

Past fifteen years — especially with a compressor failure or a system still running older refrigerant — you're usually better off replacing than pouring money into it. We'll walk the house, tell you what's actually there, and give you a free consultation on replacement so you can decide with real numbers.

Questions

Cooling questions we get a lot.

Can you add central air to a house without ducts?
Often yes — either with a compact duct design or with ductless mini-splits. We do the sheet metal work ourselves, so we can tell you honestly what's realistic in your house.
How often should AC be serviced?
Once a year, in spring. Coil cleaning and a charge check keep efficiency up and prevent most mid-summer failures.
My AC is freezing up — can I keep running it?
No. Shut it off and call us. Running it iced up risks the compressor, which is the expensive part.
Do you handle refrigerant work?
Yes — both owners hold Universal Freon Recovery certificates.

Talk to the people who'll do the work.

Frankie and Hans answer their own phones. Tell them what's going on and they'll tell you straight what it takes to fix it.
