Signs your boiler needs service
You don't need to diagnose it yourself — but knowing what you're seeing makes the call easier.
It's noisy — banging, kettling or knocking
Sediment, circulation problems or a control fault. All diagnosable, most fixable.
Radiators warm at the bottom, cold at the top
Air in the system or a circulation issue. Often a quick fix, not a new boiler.
The pressure gauge keeps drifting
Pressure that won't hold points to a leak, an expansion tank or a fill valve.
Water or rust around the base
Never ignore this one. Call before it decides the timing for you.
It hasn't been cleaned in over a year
Oil equipment needs annual cleaning — efficiency and reliability both fall off fast without it.
It struggles on the coldest nights
Boilers tend to fail when they're worked hardest, which is exactly when you don't want to be waiting.

Repair or replace?
Boilers are the one place where we most often talk people out of replacing. A well-built older boiler that's been maintained can have years left, and a lot of what goes wrong is a circulator, a control or a zone valve — parts, not equipment.
What changes the math is a cracked section, a chronic leak, or an old unit costing you real money every winter in fuel. Then we'll lay out what a replacement looks like, what it should save, and let you decide. Consultations on replacement are free.
